Democrat Congressman Threatens Nuclear War With Americans Who Oppose Assault Weapons Ban

In an exchange with independent journalist Joe Biggs, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA 15th District) defended a potential “assault weapons buyback program” by essentially saying that if American gun owners refuse to give up their arms, “the government has nukes.”

The conversation started when John Cardillo, a pundit at Newsmax, said the following:

“Make no mistake, Democrats want to eradicate the Second Amendment, ban and seize all guns, and have all power rest with the state. These people are dangerously obsessed with power.”

The NBC News article Cardillo linked is about the aforementioned congressman with the subheading “Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., drops a grenade into the middle of the gun debate.”

Next, Biggs chimed in with the following:

“So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You’re outta your f**king mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power.”

Swalwell responded:

“And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities.”

And finally Biggs summarized Swalwell’s remarks:

“So our government would nuke its own country in order to take guns? Wow”

This kind of rhetoric sets a dangerous precedent for an already unhinged political climate. Hopefully things will settle down on both sides.
