Ella Briggs, a fifth-grade student at the Ana Grace Academy of the Arts Elementary Magnet School in East Hampton, Connecticut, was just elected as the state’s newest “kid governor.”
The Kid Governor Contest is a “civics program that invites schools across the state to nominate candidates,” according to NBC Connecticut. The contest was created by the Connecticut Democracy Center.
Candidates are required to design campaign materials that focus on community issues they find important. Briggs chose to advocate for LGBTQ youth safety and used the slogan “Love is Love.”
Note: the “love is love” saying has also been used by child predators who believe love transcends age boundaries…
Thousands of elementary school students took part in the contest and elected Briggs.
