New York Congresswoman-Elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims she won the 2018 midterm election because of all the walking she did throughout city and suburban neighborhoods while meeting voters face-to-face. Now, as part of the Cornell Costume Collection, the shoes she wore will be featured in an exhibit titled “WOMEN EMPOWERED: Fashions from the Frontline.” The feminist-themed exhibit debuts next month on December 6th and “calls on women to submit items of clothing that have empowered them in the past,” according to CNN. Some other items include Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg”s collar, women”s suffrage activist Olivia Langdon”s gown, Janet Reno”s skirt and Texas governor Ann Richard”s inaugural suit. In June, Ocasio-Cortez posted the following message about her shoes and “hustle” on Twitter: Some folks are saying I won for “demographic” reasons. 1st of all, that”s false. We won w/voters of all kinds. 2nd, here”s my 1st pair of campaign shoes. I knocked doors until rainwater came through my soles. Respect the hustle. We won bc we out-worked the competition. Period.
