Last November, Project Veritas released a video that revealed Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke’s 2018 campaign staffers admitting they were illegally spending donations on Honduran migrant caravans.
Watch below:
Some key takeaways from the video:
- “I just hope nobody that’s the wrong person finds out about this.”
- “It’s f***ing happening.” O’Rourke campaign staff uses pre-paid cards for Honduran alien supplies.
- “Don’t ever repeat this…” Campaign staffers explain how to hide campaign expenditures for aliens.
- “If you get caught in some sort of violation that’s like a $50,000 fine,” “For me I can just ignore the rules and I’m like f**k it.”
- Transporting aliens to “airports… bus stations,” “None of this is like sh*t there is a rulebook for.”
- Staffer says she sent texts to director; told campaign manager Jody Casey, who says “Don’t Worry.”
Partial transcript:
Dominic Chacon (Field Manager): It’s f**king happening.
Anapaula Themann (Field Organizer): I just hope nobody that’s the wrong person finds out about this.
Chacon: For me I can ignore the rules and I’m like f**k it. I don’t mind breaking the rules and I can defend any position.
Chacon: Yeah, I was going to use the vans too… we could probably use that, get away with using the vans.
Project Veritas Undercover Journalist: Yeah.
Chacon: I’m thinking of like we’re going to use that to give some of those immigrants rides too. Like to the airport, to the bus station, why not, you know?
Chacon: I’m done being nice. I’m done being professional, you know? Cause nothing is professional. None of this is like sh*t there is a rule book for, you know?
Themann: Don’t ever repeat this and stuff but like if we just say that we’re buying food for a campaign event, like the Halloween events, cause there’s block walks coming up for Halloween.
Journalist: Have you been able to go and like, um, help out anymore, with the other people?
Themann: I did yesterday. Um, tonight we get more, so it’s, I don’t know how that’s going to go.
Journalist: Tonight you get more?
Themann: There’s more people coming.
Journalist: More people coming? Oh, wow.
Themann: Yeah. There’s four, three, two hundred more.
Journalist: So, Jody knows that like we use…
Chacon: Well, she doesn’t know that we used the, the prepaid card but, it’s okay. She doesn’t need to know. It’s going to be, it’s going to be…
Journalist: She doesn’t need to know.
Chacon: Yeah, she doesn’t need to know.
Chacon: If you get caught in some sort of like, you know, violation that’s like a $50,000 fine.
Journalist: Damn.
Chacon: Yeah, and if we got caught it’d be $50,000, you know? If that happens more than once, that’s a lot of f**king money you know?
Andrea Reyes (Field Manager): Yeah, I’ll tell her. The thing is yeah, as long as we’re not advertising it. I mean yeah, I don’t really know. They said it was fine so. I mean I don’t know, okay. I told you about it! I have the text messages to prove it, so…
Journalist: So you told like Jody?
Reyes: Yeah. I told Jody and I told my director.
Journalist: I know that we’re using some of the campaign resources to help the migrants and like, I just didn’t want anybody to get in trouble with that… like, I didn’t want them to ask me any questions about people using resources…
Jody Casey (Campaign Manager): Don’t worry.
