New Mexico is the only state in the country that has a detention facility for transgender illegal aliens, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The dedicated unit located in the Cibola County Correctional Center was opened in 2017 and houses approximately 27 detainees who identify as transgender women. A total of 400 inmates reside in the facility.
